ETS Preview (Part 1) RD1 Season #14 2021/22 Andernach, GER

The magic of ETS!

The ETS is called the most prestigious 1:10 scale electric onroad racing series in the world. With this weekend’s RD1 in Andernach, we are heading into season #14 which is an amazing achievement for any RC racing series on the planet. The Series was launched in 2008 by Uwe Rheinard and Scotty Ernst, building up on the Team Orion Speed Weekend which was really famous back in these days.

During the seasons the ETS was growing all the time and we saw fantastic races at different tracks all around Europe. Champions like Groskamp, Rheinard, Volker, Coelho, Ratheisky, Cerny, Lauter and many others were crowned, and the ETS Family became something really special in the world of RC racing.

Attending a race of the Euro Turing Series is always something special and on the “Bucket List” of almost every 1:10 scale electric onroad racer around the globe. It is the platform for everybody, and drivers get the chance to compete against the best in the world at the same weekend on the same track – something only RC racing provides!

As people say the atmosphere at the ETS is “MAGIC”!

The longest season ever

Season #13 started in October 2019 at the nice toy fair in Vienna, and continued in February 2020 in Daun where the ETS is racing at the Sporthotel Grafenwald since a couple of years now.

In March, the Covid-19 pandemic came out of nowhere and nobody ever had a situation like this in mind. We saw a lot of cancelled races, and for a while the world of RC racing had fallen asleep.

Season #13 2019/20 was the longest ETS season ever, but it only included 3 races overall with the last one taking part in September 2020 at Arena33 in Andernach. This particular race was the first event after all the major lockdowns in Europe and all racers came to Andernach with a lot of excitement. Everybody was simply thankful to finally get back into RC racing again.

The ETS crew then tried to schedule some indoor races for the end of 2020 (Berlin & Mühlheim Kärlich). As the situation was getting even more worse after a pretty relaxed summer, it finally was not possible to continue with season #13 at all. At the beginning of 2021 the longest ETS season ever was announced to be over after only 3 races in 17 months.

Season #14 – a new hope!

Due to the growing numbers of vaccinated persons the situation is improving now almost everywhere. That`s the reason why everybody is very optimistic right now. The ETS crew is looking forward to return back to normality in case of racing and the schedule for the new season. There are three outdoor races planned, followed by three carpet races when it will be allowed to host indoor events again.

The ETS crew in leadership of Uwe Rheinard and Scotty Ernst is doing everything to bring ETS racinig back to as many facilities as possible. Daily monitoring of the changing Covid-19 situations in all european countries and the communication with governments, RC clubs and ETS sponsors are the most important duties right now.

But as we know from the last 16 months – nothing seems to be really predictable and a season forecast is not easy to point out.

New Season – New Rules

Season #14 faces changes in the rules for some of the ETS classes. There will be a new Motor/Speedo Combo in use for ProStock, 17.5 Stock and 40+Masters. After a very long and successful stint with Muchmore the ETS now cooperates with ORCA and trusts in their products for the power delivery.

The tires for the touring car classes are now coming from the Italian manufacturer Matrix. In F1 we see the comeback of Ride tires. The race proven Ride FWD tires received a small update with a belt to prevent them from getting bigger in diameter during the race.

Also new is the official ETS body shell list. All ETS supporting body shell manufacturers had the chance to list their bodies of choice for the whole season, making the drivers choice of body shells easy and provident for the whole season #14 campaign.

The ETS crew decided all changes in rules to make racing more enjoyable for everybody participating at the ETS.
